Old Navy Haul

There's something about shopping for Spring that is so exciting. Don't get me wrong I love the layers and coziness of winter, but by January I definitely miss florals and bright colors. I was really excited to see how much Old Navy had that was brand new and right on trend for Spring 2012. I definitely tried to limit myself to pieces that I knew would get a lot of use in the coming season. I also abide by the CPW rule. What's CPW, you ask? Cost Per Wear. You take the price and divide it by the number of times you think you'll wear it before the season changes. It helps me decide whether that $50 dress is worth it or if the clearance $7 oversized blouse is unnecessary because it won't get enough wear.

Wishlist Wednesday

One of my favorite things I posted on my old blog was Wishlist Wednesday. It's basically a list of things that I've been lusting after, mostly makeup to be honest, but I'll switch it up sometimes!! I'm really really REALLY trying to avoid purchasing any makeup and so far it's working, but I also don't have any money to spend. Good thing/bad thing pay day is on Friday!

NYX Slim Lip Pencils- I surprisingly only own one lip pencil. I've heard great things about these and I'm excited to get my hands on a few basic shades for my collection with my 20% Ulta coupon!

Benefit Hervana- I've been lusting after this blush ever since the swatches first came out. It's the perfect matte flush when all the colors are swirled together.

Lilly Pulitzer Cassie Dress in Coral Skipper Stripe- This dress is so freaking cute. It's so simple, but fun. It's casual chic at it's finest. I know I'd get a lot of wear out of this one this spring & summer!

Ray-Ban Cat's Eye Sunglasses in Black- A few weeks ago, my parents moved and my favorite Ray Ban sunglasses moved with them and are now missing. I saw these and fell in love with the fun style!

Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Collection- Oh my goodness, this collection is screaming my name. I have a weakness for any Rose Gold and this is no exception. I'm dying for those shimmer bricks and glosses!

Victoria's Secret Half-zip Pullover- I'm loving pullovers right now and I think this wonderful color would be a great pop to bring with me on our Mexico cruise next month!

What are you wishing for this week, dolls?

In my bag

Someone on tumblr asked me to make a "What's in my Bag" video. I already have one on my youtube channel, but decided to do a quick update via my blog. I think it's super cool to get a peek into the purses and makeup bags of other girls to be honest. It's like getting to see into their lives which I think is pretty interesting. I also love seeing what products they use and swear by. Unfortunately, my tote isn't all that exciting, but here it is.

I swear by the Longchamp Le Pilage. This is my third one and they're an amazing carry all for all occasions: everyday, night, work, and traveling. If you're on the fence about splurging on the Large or the Medium, it's definitely worth it to me.
The third book in the Hunger Games series and my current read!
My Keys with Cupcake Keychain
My K Ring
I am absolutely obsessed with this $3 tinted moisturizer. It gives me a fabulous glow and pretty good coverage for a tinted moisturizer.
Fortunes from fortune cookies
Altoids Smalls Cinnamon Mints
Altoids Peppermint filled with my bobby pins
Ahhh this will be included in another post, it's such a fabulous discovery and such an easy way to keep bobby pins from getting lost.
Purple Stickies
Various pens and highlighters
Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera
C got me a set of these Eye Crayons for Christmas and they're amazingly pigmented. This one is my favorite especially for my waterline, lower lashline, and inner corner. It's the perfect brightener to make me look more awake!
Belle mini hairbrush
Essie Brazilliant
Bath and Body Works Pocket Bac - Brownie Mix
Coach Plaid Wristlet
House Keys
Crappy Sunglasses
Sony DSLR - A100
TRESemme Extra Firm Control Hairspray

So that was your peek into my overally packed tote. I never realized how much I carry around in there haha. It's ridiculous. Share with me your top 5 purse must haves in the comments!

Chocolate Covered Rice Crispy Treats

The other night, I attempted to make Chocolate Mousse using only sugar, water, and chocolate. Unfortunately I could not find my scale, so the amount of chocolate was off and the mousse never whipped correctly. It was disappointing, but I wasn't giving up on my hope of having something chocolately. Also, I had already promised V that I'd make him something. All I had left were Milk Chocolate Candy Wafers (the kind you melt down for cake pops), so I grabbed some Rice Krispy Treats (premade, because I was lazy) and a square pan.

What you'll need:

  • Milk chocolate (candy wafers were okay, but I'd definitely use a Hershey's bar or two next time!)
  • Rice Krispy Treats (homemade or Kellog's)
  • 8" x 8" Square Pan
  • Butter or Baking Spray
  • Spatula
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray/butter your pan to ensure easy removal of the rice krispies if you wish. I'd suggest it because mine were a pain to get out without anything on the bottom.

2. Arrange your Rice Krispy Treats in the pan. I fit 12, vertically and horizontally. You don't need to fill up the whole pan if you don't want to, but just make sure the ones that are in there are touching.

3. Place your chocolate on top in any way you please. I put four wafers per row and that worked great. You'll have to experiment if you're using a chocolate bar.

4. Place it in the oven. I was impatient and put it in at 130 degrees. You really just need to let the chocolate melt, so that it is soft enough to spread.

5. Keep checking on the chocolate and take it out when it's soft enough. I think this took like 5 minutes tops for me at a lower temp than what I'm suggesting. But watch closely because burnt chocolate is the worst. It will look start to look really shiny.

6. Take a spatula and spread the chocolate over the rice krispies. It should move easily and coat the rice krispy treats well.

7. Now, enjoy! Either wait till they harden a bit, or if you're like V and I, enjoy hot and gooey.

This turned out to be more fun because the hot melted chocolate lead to more of this, rather than eating haha:

This is a great quick, easy, and delish dessert for anyone with chocolate and rice krispies lying around in your pantry! It's also obviously a lot of fun to make with a group or with someone else. :)

The Five W's

In elementary school before we wrote short stories or little essays, our teachers would ask us to write down "the 5 W's (Who, What, Where, When, & Why)," so I thought it would be appropriate to have my first post be my five W's to introduce myself.

Who: Me! Danielle aka Dan, hence the name Classically Dan. I'm 20. I like to bake, shop, and craft basically. Most likely if you're reading this blog, you already knew that. But here I am, if you don't:

What: I think in the past I've limited myself in content for my blog when it is my space. Classically Dan leaves so much room for me to explore, much like my tumblr, but with more words. I'll basically be posting anything I want: things I'm lusting after, makeup hauls, recipes, dream home decor, book reviews, pictures, my life in a nutshell.

Where: Well obviously, I'll be posting here on this blog haha. But I live in Arizona and usually will be posting from here:

When: Fingers crossed that I'll be posting at least once or twice a week. No promises because it will depend how busy I am with work and what not.

Why: Well, I've truly missed having a real blog besides mine and Hannah's lovely Beauty Forum. I also lost the password and email to my old blog, Sprinkle Me Sweet. I thought it would nice to start fresh in 2012 anyway.

This week will most likely be full of posts about me and my life, kind of like one of those great what happened last week intros that lots of television shows have. I'm excited to have my outlet back because quite honestly, tumblr has been making me crazy with all of the nonsense and drama and anonymous crap that's everywhere. Before I go, definitely go check me out on twitter, youtube, and pinterest. My links are those super precious little buttons in my sidebar. Oh yeah and I've also started a page for the books I've read this year. So far those are only the first two Hunger Games books, but I highly HIGHLY recommend you check them out if you haven't. There's seriously something in those books to spark everyone's interest!!
